Butties,
Now that we have discussed what might be the best music videos of the 1980's, I now feel it is important to move on to the next discussion, which only naturally follows the first, being: Best tv theme song.
While many of the theme songs will be from tv shows of the 1980's, as that was truly the most creative decade musically for television, there will be some from the 90's as well as current. The criteria is not nearly as detailed and intricate, nor demanding as were those of the 80's music video. Really, the only criteria is- Is it catchy? Preferably it has lyrics, but if not, are the clips entertaining? Enough to overlook the lack of lyrics?
1. Cheers
Really this is the godfather, the creme-de-le-creme of tv theme songs, and I am sure that the majority of people will agree that it is. But, because it is so well loved and known, is it actually a detriment to itself?
2. Punky Brewster
Not really my favorite show, but it was cute. And the song is enough to stir goosebumps and feelings of goodwill.
3. Charles in Charge
Scott Baio, with a future baywatch gal. It is good mixture, but I could never understand how a good looking twentysomething male got the job as a nanny in a house full of good looking teenagers.
4. Silver Spoons
Not really the greatest song, but the artistic work was amazing with up to date technological savvy used to truly capture an 80's feel.
5. Family Ties
The song is a bit ho-hum, but it is fun to see a young and healthy Michael J. Fox- Insert shameless joke here.
6. Small Wonder-
Actually pretty creepy, Willy Wonka kind of creepy.
7. Who's the Boss
This song gets the award for best K-Mart song that you hear while shopping in the store. Tony Danza! Is there really anything else to be said?
8. Perfect Strangers
The up-close pose shots of the two stars are unparalleled.
9. Mr. Belvedere
Where Marilyn Manson was born.
10. Dukes of Hazzard
This song recalls my days of growing up in Montana, and wanting to grow up redneck like my neighbors.
11. Golden Girls
May very well be the one theme song that could upset Cheers.
12. Different Strokes
This is straight up 70's funk. And I love it!
13. The A-team
Be somebody!
The A-TEAM Intro - More free videos are here
14. Full House
The show we all hated, but could never watch enough of.
15. Ducktales
The show I ran home from school to make sure I never missed.
16. The Loveboat
I must admit, I never actually sat and watched an episode of this show. It always seemed weak to me. But, I always recognized the theme song.
17. MacGuyver
I remember when my dream in life was to be the real life Mac.
18. Magnum P.I.
Without doubt my favorite action show as a kid. And the opening credit action shots were pretty exciting.
19. He-Man
I love this shit.
20. G.I. Joe
I miss Reagan sometimes. I had so many of these collectibles, until Court sold them all behind my back for 20 dollars.
21. Transformers
Too bad Michael Bay had to go and butt rape these guys
22. Prince of Bel-Air
I think maybe this song is so well known, that it has actual outgrown the show itself. And if so, then is it truly a theme song?
23. Beverly Hills 90210
The song is lame. The only reason why I bothered to put this up there, is so you can look at all of these homos and want to punch them out as hard as I do while watching the intro.
24. LA Law
A classic Steven Bocho series, that made me want to be a laywer for many years as a kid.
25. Miami Vice
Arguably the most well remembered and missed tv show of the the 1980's. Plus, some Jan Hammer rock out.
26. Baywatch
Hasslehoff. Hot chicks in bikinis. Seriously. The most famous theme intro in the world I believe.
27. One Tree Hill
The song may have been written before the show, and thus was not made for the show, but you will feel that not only does it not take away from the opening intro, it actually magnifies it, thus making it maybe the greatest tv intro in the history of television. All I have to do is think of meat....
28. Knight Rider
I can't tell you how big of a smile this one makes me have. I love the narration. I find that this is a fitting one to end the list with.
