So, i really am not that entertained by the new stuff out there. Perhaps I'm not listening to enough stuff (no more ripping music for me: Buy it or no listening at all). But here's what my year consisted of on the music scene:
Discovering:
The Who (These guys are old, but they still freakin rock. They stole the post-9/11 Concert for NYC right out from under the youngsters)
Foo Fighters (late in the game, yes, but they're pretty good most of the time. This Stairway to Heaven cover is high comedy: It takes guts to destroy a classic on purpose on national television and hope the audience understands.)
Rediscovering: Led Zeppelin, Counting Crows (Loved Saturday Nights & Sunday Mornings)
Forgetting and burying: Dave Matthews Band (RIP Leroi Moore. Too bad you had to stick around post BTCS. I can't even listen to anything by DMB until at least 2010, because it just makes me angry.)
Short list, yes, but I spend less time listening to music now and more time with political talk (local stuff, news, etc..,) World of Warcraft (miss you Nutz), and just chilling at home with the wife. And if you guys know anything about my musical tastes, it's clear that I tend to fixate on bands, get comfortable with them, wear them out, hope they can duplicate their excellence, watch them fail, stick around far too long, and then get depressed. Yes, I'm looking at you Dave Matthews Band. At least Zeppelin and The Who had the decency to recognize the end.
If you guys are interested, I'd love to watch "Tommy" and "Quadrophenia" some weekend. Haven't seen them at Blockbuster, but they are bound to be found somewhere...

You're forcing yourself to buy music? WTF? I would never listen to anything new if I did that. I only like 1/10 of the stuff I download, if I had to buy it I would never find anything new. I'll post my top five later, and I'll take the moral heat to burn them for you if you want.
ReplyDeleteSweet. That would rock.
ReplyDeleteWould you rather have regular audio CD's or MP3's on a cd/dvd?
ReplyDeleteMP3s
ReplyDeleteI like your comments, but really I have tried to listen to Saturday night and sunday morning, three times now. And by the end, I want to escape with a little Hannah Montana to ease my sorrows.
